SABIC is a global leader in diversified chemicals with operations in more than 50 countries and over 35,000 employees worldwide. The Analytical Technology team (>30 FTEs) is part of the SABIC Corporate Innovation and Business Development organization and provides analytical characterization expertise to support technology programs across Strategic Business Units such as PETCHEM and SPECIALTIES. The laboratories are well equipped with an extensive array of modern analytical techniques in the area of NMR, chromatography, spectroscopy, elemental analysis, morphology and microscopy.
At SABIC we attract diverse talents and develop their leadership and technical skills. We are currently looking for motivated and independent student for a 12 months internship in Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands) site with a starting date in summer 2019. This is the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment in the T&I environment of one of the largest chemical companies.

Characterization of Polymers and Hybrid Materials by Micro- Computed Tomography Scanner
Recently, the analytical department at SABIC purchases the last generation micro-CTscanner for industrial applications and material science research and development. CTscan is a non-destructive testing technique allowing investigating internal and external structures, providing accurate 3D information on the geometry and morphology. The Micro-Analysis team is building expertise in X-ray micro-CTscan for the characterization of polymers and hybrid materials.
One of the key parameters to ensure the reliability of the measurements is the establishment of measuring uncertainty on the attenuation coefficient that can be derived from CTscan experiments. The student will establish the relationship between the sample characteristic, the scanning parameters and the obtained signal to noise ratio, in view of developing a method for the optimization of the scanning parameters.
Other parameters which would influence the measurements reproducibility are environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity or vibrations. The purpose of the study will aim at characterizing their effects on the ability of tracking specific features and to design and assess potential hardware and software solutions.
The duration of the internship is 12 months starting in summer 2019.
Candidates who are not available during timeline mentioned above for 12 months will not be considered. Candidates who are not currently enrolled as students will also not be considered.
